Christie Barlow – A Home at Honeysuckle Farm

First to be featured today is my very own book, A Home at Honeysuckle Farm. I invited the uber-talented book blogger Sarah Hardy from By the Letter-Book Reviews to read and review it. Here’s what she had to say!

Christie Barlow transports us into the wonderful and idyllic world of Brook Bridge. A small knit community of which you can easily visualise the country box houses and the quaint shops. It sounded heavenly and along with Honeysuckle Farm itself, I was ready to pack up and move there myself. Alice is a wonderful protagonist. She is young, sensible, hardworking but sadly struggling to follow her dreams. Going back to her childhood home gives her a much welcome break from the disappointment of New York. Reuniting with her childhood best friend and a new love interest to boot, why would you ever want to leave? Grandie is a wonderful character. There is no mistaking the strong and loving aura that surrounds him. I was as desperate as Alice in finding out what had made her mum and Grandie fall out all those years before. I couldn’t envision what could be that bad to stop them from talking and have a mother take her young daughter miles away from home. When we find out, WOAH! I did not see that coming! Excellent twist! A Home at Honeysuckle Farm is a comforting and breathtaking read. It radiates goodness of which you can’t help but fall in love with it all. A truly wonderful story by one of my favourite go-to authors who never lets me down.

Annie Lyons

Annie Lyons – The Happiness List

The book begins on Mother’s Day as we meet the three main characters. Heather is in her twenties and is planning her wedding to fiancé Luke, convinced that it will bring her the happiness she needs, provided he tones down his workaholic tendencies. Fran in her early forties and since being widowed two years ago has done her best to bring up her two children, whilst never really facing her own grief. Resident star-baker, Pamela is fed up with being taken for granted by her garden-obsessed husband and grown-up children, she feels ready to try something new. The three women come together when they attend a weekly happiness course run by Scandinavian life coach, Nik. There are many laugh-out-loud moments, but also heart-wrenching scenes as Fran struggles to come to terms with the loss of her husband. The powerful sense of community, friendship and kindness drives this story. This is another absolute gem of a story from Annie Lyons, guaranteed to make your happiness list!

Sleeper 13, Book, Thriller, Rob Sinclair

Rob Sinclair – Sleeper 13

Following the story of Aydin, a young man who was kidnapped from his London home as a boy, to be taken to the middle east and trained as one of a group of elite insurgents – ‘Sleepers’ – the book deals with real-world problems, namely the threat of terrorists inflicting carnage on our way of life in the West. The realism in the book is both startling and unsettling, yet utterly engrossing. Despite Aydin’s life having been irrevocably tarnished by the group who kidnapped him, he resolves to try and break away from those who control him and thus sets off a catalogue of deadly events that quickly spirals out of his control. Enter Rachel Cox, an MI6 agent who has been investigating the existence of the Sleepers for some time, but who until now has hit roadblocks both in her investigation and from her superiors. Aydin’s and Rachel’s lives naturally cross paths as the remaining Sleepers near their climatic attacks on Europe, both of them with the same commitment to stop the attacks whatever it takes. Every action and plot device is steeped in deceit and duplicity and a lack of trust. Sleeper 13 is as brutal as it is brilliant, and the pace throughout is relentless, right up to the astonishing ending which I’m sure will have readers on the edge of their seats, chomping on their nails.
