There are two major attractions here, one is the magical land that’s home to a famous mouse and a host of other characters. For many people though, the real stars are the magnificent
beaches that line the state’s coast. The number one reason for scheduling a Florida vacation is to sit on The Sunshine State’s incredible beaches and enjoy the soft sand, warm water, and beautiful sunsets you’ll find there and with thousands of miles of coastline, the beaches in Florida are many and quite varied.

Choose your favourite, South Beach in Miami, the white-sanded family-oriented beaches of Siesta Key, near Sarasota, as well as the beaches of the Keys and those in the southwest, like Sanibel and Marco Islands. Wherever you go, you’ll find a Florida beach where you can sun, swim, and enjoy the view. Theme park fanatics, most especially Disney fans, often head to The Sunshine State to get their dose of magic.

While most people tend to visit here for the recreation, the Spanish-style architecture of St. Augustine, the oldest continuously occupied European- established city in the U.S., to Tampa and its ties to the cigar industry, to the rich military history of the Panhandle, Florida excites and educates visitors who enjoy gaining a little knowledge while on vacation.

Lapland has a lot more to offer than elves and grottos, it is an intensely beautiful landscape of snow-bound forests, frozen lakes and vast expanses of tundra. There is an almost magical stillness in winter, and though the sun barely skims the horizon, for a few hours a day the sky glows deep blue and the snow seems almost luminous in the oblique light.

After dark, the moon and stars are piercingly bright, and if you stay for more than a night or two, you have an excellent chance of witnessing the mesmerizing swirl of the Northern Lights. One of the natural wonders of the world, the Aurora Borealis occurs throughout the winter, from November to April. While there’s no guarantee of seeing it, there is a wide range of tours to wilderness areas, which offer a good chance of being in the right place at the right time.

A huge network of trails, extending hundreds of miles through forests, past frozen lakes and over fell highlands, makes this region perfect for exploring by snowmobile or husky sledge ride, excursions range in length from a couple of hours to a few days. Stay in a variety of accommodation, ranging from a luxurious modern hotel, snow hotel, log cabins or even a glass igloo.

Pre-conceptions are a funny thing. If someone told you about an archipelago of islands set adrift off the coast of Africa, an oasis that boasts superb beaches and perennial warmth, which is home to the world’s second-largest Carnival, award-winning wines and Spain’s highest mountain, you’d probably want to visit.

The Canary Islands boast near-perfect year-round temperatures, which means whether it’s summer or winter you can enjoy the dramatic and varied landscape here that you usually have to cross continents to experience. The most obvious spot to relax is on a beach, and there are plenty of choices: from the soft rolling dunes in Fuerteventura to the wide arcs of golden sand in Tenerife.

East of the Spanish mainland, the four chief Balearic Islands – Ibiza, Formentera, Mallorca and Menorca – maintain a character distinct from the rest of Spain and from each other. Ibiza is wholly unique, its capital Ibiza Town is loaded with historic interest while the north of the island has a distinctly bohemian character.

Tiny Formentera has even better beaches than its neighbour and makes up in rustic charm what it lacks in cultural history.

Mallorca the largest and best known Balearic is in fact, the one island in the group you might come to other than for beaches and nightlife, with scope for plenty of hiking. Mountains, lovely old towns, and some beautiful coves.

Finally, to the east, there’s Menorca – more subdued in its clientele, and here the modern resorts are kept at a safe distance from the two main towns.
